These past two weeks in art we were studying Native American art. We discussed their pottery and how they painted it and made pinch pots. We also learned how Native Americans are very talented weavers, especially the Navajo people, and we weaved paper

This week and the week before break we were learning about winter. We made a peaceful winter forest, melted snowmen, and snowflakes as we talked and learned about what we like to do in the winter.

Estimada familia:

Dear Family,
Beginning on January 12th, Multilingual Learners (MLLs) in grades K-12 will participate in the WIDA ACCESS state assessment. This assessment measures a student’s English language skills in the areas of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. ACCESS is used by classroom teachers to determine the level of language support that a student may need during instruction. With this information, we are able to monitor student progress on an annual basis and determine when a student is ready to be placed in mainstream instruction.
Escalante Biggs Academy will be administering the assessment on the following day(s)

Jan 12, 2026 through Jan. 28, 2026

Students best demonstrate what they know after getting plenty of sleep the night before testing and eating a healthy breakfast in the morning. To keep your child from missing instruction due to makeup testing, ensure that they arrive on-time for school and that appointments and vacations are planned for non-testing days.
Your support during ACCESS is appreciated as state assessments are vital tools that contribute towards student success.
If you have general questions regarding the assessment, please contact your student’s teacher.

Thank you,
Consuelo Sandoval-Ramos
Assistant Principal

Influenza (flu) vaccination protects against the flu and its potential complications. If your student has not received their flu vaccine for this season, consider getting their flu shot over the winter break. You can go to https://cdphe.colorado.gov/immunizations/get-vaccinated to find a vaccine provider near you.

This past two weeks we have done a study on feedback called Austin's Butterfly. Students picked butterfly for the week, drew a draft of it each day, and then gave each other feedback on how they can make their butterfly better. It was so amazing seeing how they listened and reflected and gave thoughtful feedback! Check out their butterfly books and see how they improved!
